(KNSI) – The St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders boys’ hockey team faces Orono in Friday’s Class A state tournament semifinal contest.

On Wednesday, the team advanced after blanking Mahtomedi 3-0. Goaltender Keaton LeGrande earned his fifth shutout of the season in the win. Other key contributors included senior Joey Gillespie, getting two goals, and senior John Hirschfeld, recently named Star Tribune All-Minnesota Boys Hockey Player of the Year, adding two assists.

The Crusaders improved to 19-8-2 on the year and are the second seed in the tournament.

Orono is the sixth seed and beat Northfield 8-2. The Spartans have a record of 16-10-3. The Cathedral beat Orono 4-2 back on January 4th.

KNSI will bring all the action when the puck drops from the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul on Friday at 11:00 a.m. The winner will take on whoever comes out on top between the top-seeded Hibbing/Chisholm squad and number four East Grand Forks.

The Crusaders are looking to repeat as state champions after winning their second title in 2024. They won their first in 2019.
