(KNSI) – St. Cloud-based CentraCare is breaking ground with a pair of heart procedures.

According to the medical provider, the CentraCare Heart and Vascular team accomplished another milestone when they used two new nonsurgical ways to treat two different patients suffering from tricuspid valve regurgitation. The tricuspid heart valve is oftentimes called the “forgotten valve” because of its difficulty to diagnose and treat.

In February, the team successfully used a TriClip device to repair a leaky tricuspid valve. The Federal Food & Drug Administration approved the new device less than a year ago.

This past December, CentraCare’s structural heart team also performed the community’s first nonsurgical tricuspid valve replacement. Doctors say the nonsurgical procedure results in less pain, shorter hospital stays and quicker patient recovery.

Between repair or replacement, patients now have two potential nonsurgical alternatives for TR, a condition that previously had limited options for treatment.
