(KNSI) – The St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders boys’ hockey team cleared their first hurdle in their quest to repeat as Class A state champions.
On Wednesday, the team advanced to the Minnesota State High School Tournament semifinals after blanking Mahtomedi 3-0 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. Goaltender Keaton LeGrande earned his fifth shutout of the season in the win. Other key contributors included senior Joey Gillespie getting two goals and senior John Hirschfeld, recently named Star Tribune All-Minnesota Boys Hockey Player of the Year, adding two assists.
The Crusaders improve to 19-8-2 on the year and are the second-seed in the tournament. They will play Orono and KNSI will bring all the action when the puck drops from the Xcel Energy Center on Friday at 11:00 a.m.
The Crusaders won their second state title in 2024 after winning their first in 2019.
