(KNSI) – St. Cloud will host a world-class guitarist for two events this weekend.
Ukraine’s Marko Topchii is on tour as a reward for winning a prestigious music competition. Rebecca Scheele from the Chamber Music Society of St. Cloud explains. “He won the 2023 Guitar Foundation of America international concert artist competition that was in New York City, and as part of that award, he has this tour of the US organized for him. And, so, he’s traveling all over the country.”
Topchii’s tour will begin on Friday, February 28th, at 1:00 p.m. at the Whitney Center before playing at St. John’s Episcopal Church the next night. “There’s refreshments and some pastries served during that it’s a very nice, informal mini-concert setting, and includes question and answer time. His full-length formal concert on Saturday, March 1, the tickets are available online in advance or at the door.”
Topchii will also make sure to spend some time mentoring the next generation. He plans to meet one-on-one with guitar students at Tech High School and the guitar studio at St. Ben’s in Collegeville.
Tickets are $15 for non-members at the Whitney Senior Center. To buy them, call 320-255-7245 or email whitneyseniorcenter@ci.stcloud.mn.us. To attend the concert at St. John’s Episcopal Church on March 1st, click here.
