(KNSI) – CentraCare is being proactive in screening for colon cancer throughout March.

It is a leading cause of death for both men and women, but is considered extremely treatable if caught early. About 70% of people who get colorectal cancer have no family history.

CentraCare will pass out free iFOBT take-home kits at Baxter, Becker, Big Lake, Clearwater, Eden Valley, Long Prairie, Melrose, Monticello, and Richmond clinics. Those eligible can also pick them up at hospitals in Benson, Paynesville, Sauk Centre, Redwood and St. Cloud, as well as the Willmar Cancer Center and CentraCare Plaza.

The number of free kits is limited, so anyone wanting one has to pick them up in person. You must be at least 45 years old.

March is Colon Cancer Awareness Month.
