(KNSI) — The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about an attempted ATM theft in Pierz Monday night to please come forward.

Deputies were called about 11:15 to the Farmers and Merchants State Bank about the potential heist. According to authorities, the suspects used a heavy chain connected to a stolen truck from Fergus Falls to try and rip the ATM off its foundation. They abandoned their mission and fled the scene in a newer model, light colored SUV. A perimeter was set up and a search was conducted using a K9 unit and air support from the Minnesota State Patrol, but police say the suspects are still at large.

Investigators say they believe the incident is connected to similar heists in the past week in Crookston and Pelican Rapids. At least three people may be involved as two try and steal the ATM and a third loads it up into an SUV and drives away.

The investigation remains ongoing, and law enforcement is reviewing surveillance footage. Residents of Pierz are encouraged to check their security cameras for any relevant footage from 10:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on February 24th. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office at 320-632-9233.
