(KNSI) – Soon, ice enthusiasts in St. Cloud will be back to looking up open skate times at the Municipal Athletic Complex.

As of Tuesday, the city park and recreation department has shut down the warming shelter on Lake George due to rapidly deteriorating ice conditions as the thaw continues across the region. The closure will last until next winter. Open water has made it the first to shutter, but others are operating on thin ice given the forecast.

For now, eight outdoor rinks run by the city remain open. Those include hockey rinks at Northway, Raymond, Rolling Ridge, Rotary West, Schmidt, and Talahi parks. Seberger and Southwood Heights have pleasure rinks. Centennial and Haws Parks were closed for the season due to improvements and will be back to business next year.

The National Weather Service predicts highs in the 40s through Friday before a brief cold snap brings us below freezing Saturday. Temperatures are expected to rebound Sunday and be in the 50s on Monday.
