(KNSI) – The fortunes of Joann have turned on the head of a sewing needle, with its bankruptcy plans going from a return to glory to a full liquidation.
The original plan in March 2024 was to take the business private and have every store survive, but another bankruptcy last month revealed more troubles for the fabric and craft retailer. Still, officials had hoped to close only 500 of the company’s 850 stores.
After a weekend auction that will be finalized in federal court on Wednesday, the new buyers are signaling that they intend to wind down all of Joann’s current operations and hold a going-out-of-business sale at each of its locations.
Joann’s central Minnesota stores include St. Cloud, Hutchinson, Alexandria, and Willmar.
