(KNSI) – A St. Cloud business is set to expand for the first time in its 108-year history in 2025.
Sunburst Memorials makes and installs headstones at cemeteries. It has recently purchased the former Beaver Island Brewing Company facility in the business park on Electron Drive. Sunburst hopes to open it by the end of the year, allowing for 10,500 square feet of office space and doubling production from 7,500 headstones to 15,000.
Sunburst specializes in all aspects of headstone crafting. It sandblasts, paints, and hand carves everything itself before the stones go on sale at 22 retail stores across the Midwest. Sunburst experts will then install the stones at the cemetery to ensure their longevity.
The new facility features higher ceilings, allowing cranes to move the heavy headstones from station to station more efficiently. Some semblance of automation will be possible through the use of state-of-the-art equipment, as well.
Company president Jill Kampa notes that 70% of sales come just after a death or during some other immediate need. Sunburst’s new facility will help ensure that it can move quickly to fill orders while delivering a product worthy of the memories of those they’re memorializing.
