(KNSI) – Sauk Rapids City Council will look at shrinking the scope of a road project north of Highway 15 at Monday’s meeting.
City Engineer Scott Hedlund has revised a project involving the Highview Drive area. Rather than a full reconstruction, the work would be mostly resurfacing with some targeting infrastructure upgrades. Ditch cleaning would be limited to the east side of the West and North Highview Drives intersection to help keep standing water from recurring. Installing a curb on High Drive has been scrapped. The cost would drop from nearly $1.3 million to $850,000. The issue is part of the consent agenda.
Meanwhile, the 2025 overlay improvements project is likely to expand to include a water main break that happened over the holiday season. A large chunk of the frontage road across from Municipal Park near the 10th Street railroad crossing had to be tore up to repair the main. The segment affected totals over 660 feet.
The existing work is ramping up in scope as well. It is looking like total curb replacement will be needed for many of the roads affected, adding another $190,000 to the budget. The 2025 overlay project includes the Church Hill Heights, Garden Brook, Hillside Meadows, Oak Crest, and Stone Ridge developments, and 15th Street NE west of 10th Avenue. The changes raise the total cost to over $2.5 million, of which about $500,000 would be assessed to property owners.
The council meeting begins at 6:00 p.m.
