(KNSI) – St. Cloud-area Senator Aric Putnam has brought a bill before the Commerce and Consumer Protection Committee that would change how DoorDash, Instacart, and Uber Eats deliver alcohol.

All third-party services would be required to pay $500 per year for an off-sale liquor license. The law would also stipulate that anyone dropping off alcohol to customers must be at least 21 years old. They would be responsible for checking IDs to ensure recipients are 21 as well.

Combining the mandates with alcohol awareness training is designed to help curb alcohol abuse. Putnam says, “This is about ensuring that no one else has to endure the pain of losing a loved one to preventable harm.”

Putnam notes that Maryland and New Jersey have similar laws.
