(KNSI) – Central Minnesota will continue to be smothered by another dangerously cold blast of arctic air through the middle of the week.
The National Weather Service has issued an extreme cold warning from 9:00 p.m. Tuesday to 9:00 a.m. Wednesday for Stearns, Benton, Sherburne, Morrison and Wright Counties. Air temperatures could drop to near 20 below zero overnight, with dangerously cold wind chills of around 45 below expected. The cold has the potential to cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes. Officials warn you to wear layers, including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside.
Bitter cold continues through Thursday morning, with wind chills between 20 to 30 below zero expected.
St. Cloud area residents only need to hold on for a few more days. The NWS is predicting a high of 20 on Friday and temperatures above freezing over the weekend. Minnesota has been in the deep freeze since Sunday.
