(KNSI) – The 8th annual Ice Carousel Extravaganza Festival is looking to set a new world record.

The event is set for February 15th and 16th on Green Prairie Fish Lake, about four miles north of Little Falls. ICE Fest Director of Marketing Becca Ruegemer explained to KNSI News they’re attempting to make a whole new kind of carousel. “This year’s attempt is what we call the bullseye. So it will be a carousel within a carousel within a carousel. So three carousels spinning in opposite directions.”

She says the first ring will be 1,000 feet across, then a 550-foot ring inside of that, and then a 100-foot ring inside of that. The organizers used to go for the largest carousel every year in their friendly competition with other ice artists in Maine, Finland and Quebec, but they actually ran out of space on the lake, and so now they’ve come up with a different world record to go for.

Event organizer Chuck Zwilling says there is something to do for kids or all ages while supporting a good cause. “The event itself is a free, family friendly weekend of outdoor activities centered around raising money for kids that run the risk of not eating over the weekend and making large ice carousels.”

ICE Fest is a fundraiser for the Little Falls School District’s backpack program called Flyer Pride Packs. The program sends food home with kids in the school district whose families are struggling to put enough food on the table. Over the last eight years, they’ve donated $137,000 to the program.

New to this year’s event is a hot air balloon experience, face painting and a s’mores station. Back by popular demand is human bowling, human foosball, curling, Finnish sledding, Santa sleigh rides, giant building blocks, a paragliding demo and more. Saturday will feature fireworks at 6:00 p.m. on the lake.
