(KNSI) – District 742 will begin making its case to the public this weekend for improvements at Apollo High School and a new athletic facility.
The issue will go before voters on April 8th in a referendum. The first question is for installing secure entrances and making enhancements for technical education classes, including an ambulance bay and health care lab, diesel engine automotive technician bay, and advanced computing stations for STEM disciplines. The second question concerns an indoor multipurpose athletic facility. The total financial hit for voters is estimated at $3.33 per year in property taxes, assuming a home value of $250,000.
To lobby for the referendum, District 742 is going with a four-pronged public information campaign. There will be two walking tours of Apollo High School on the 15th of February (this Saturday at 10:00 a.m.) and the 15th of March. A public presentation is scheduled for February 24th before the high school choir concert and again on March 24th at the Whitney Senior Center.
The League of Women Voters will have an informational session on February 27th at the District Administration Office. The district will hold three sessions at the Great River Regional Library. One presentation will be in English, another in Spanish, and the final in Somali.
Superintendent Dr. Laurie Putnam will host a Coffee and Conversation chat on the subject on March 14th.
