(KNSI) — The gunman suspected of shooting and killing a 17-year-old St. Cloud boy earlier this month is still on the loose.
Layson Davis was shot and killed during an altercation inside an apartment building the morning of February 2nd. A 19-year-old man from Cold Spring was also shot in the melee. He was rushed to CentraCare St. Cloud Hospital, where he was last listed in critical condition.
Court papers say Bernard Bowens went to the apartment on the 200 block of 2nd Street Northeast to buy a gun. Bowens flashed a wad of cash and stuck it back in his pocket before the three are seen on surveillance video struggling over a black and gold handgun, which ended up in Bowens’s hands. He is then seen running down the hallway with it. Davis appears to ambush Bowens as he is coming down the stairs. The two drew their guns, and Davis was shot in the chest. The other victim took off running but was shot by someone else. Bowens, another suspect, Quinton McNeal and two other unidentified men then fled the scene.
McNeal and his girlfriend, Olivia Williams, have both been charged with aiding and abetting the theft of a firearm and aiding and abetting first-degree robbery, and Williams is facing an additional charge of aiding an offender. She is accused of driving Bowens to a home in Minnetonka and dropping him off.
Bowens is wanted for second and third degree murder. Anyone with any information on his whereabouts can contact St. Cloud police at 320-251-1200, the Benton County Sheriff’s Department at 320-968-7201, or Tri-County Crimestoppers at 1-800-255-1301. Police say the investigation is still active and ongoing, and additional arrests and charges may still be issued.
