St. Cloud Area School District Official Hired as Superintendent in Southwestern Minnesota

(KNSI) — The Executive Director of Operations for St. Cloud Area School District 742 has been selected as the new superintendent for a district in southwestern Minnesota.

Joel Heitkamp was unanimously selected as the next superintendent for the Worthington Independent School District 518.

Heitkamp graduated from Worthington High School, so his hiring is a bit of a homecoming. Heitkamp earned his degree at St. Cloud State University and started his teaching career here. He served as South Junior High School’s assistant principal before becoming that school’s principal. Heitkamp moved into the exeutive director role in July.

He holds a master’s in teaching and learning and earned an administrative license in 2017.

Contract negotiations will begin later this month, with his start date anticipated July 1st.
