(KNSI) – Sartell officials are giving homeowners the option to run a steady, thin stream from their faucet to keep their pipes from freezing.
Exceptionally cold weather is expected for most of the next two weeks. One way to combat the consequences is to allow water to flow from the faucet at about the width of a pencil. Officials say it is not being required at this time but should be considered a helpful precaution.
If a homeowner chooses to run their tap, they are responsible for the additional costs associated with it. Estimates are somewhere around two dollars per day.
Waite Park and St. Cloud note they are monitoring frost depth through the State of Minnesota database. Current readings show it reaching between two and three feet beneath the surface. Most pipes sit between five and eight feet underground, and officials say a running water advisory is unnecessary now.
