(KNSI) — The National Weather Service has downgraded the winter storm watch issued for tonight. Instead, we are under a winter weather advisory.
The advisory is in place from 9:00 Friday night to 3:00 Saturday afternoon for accumulations of 4″ to 6″ of snow, instead of the 5″ to 11″ that was expected.
Snow is expected to start in western Minnesota late Friday night, arriving in central Minnesota around 11:00 p.m. to midnight. The heaviest snow is predicted to fall around here between midnight and 6:00 a.m., with the system out of the area by midafternoon Saturday. The flakes will linger east of Interstate 35 into late afternoon, so for those headed in that direction, a winter storm watch is still in effect. Heading south, accumulations between 2″ and 4″ are expected.
Roads will be snow covered and slick, so forecasters say anyone with travel plans should keep a close eye on the forecast and road conditions.
