(KNSI) — Minnesota DFL Party Chair Ken Martin is headed to Washinton, D.C.
Martin was elected to lead the Democratic National Committee on the first ballot on Saturday. In his acceptance speech, Martin said, “Today’s elections mark a new chapter in DNC leadership, and Donald Trump and his billionaire allies are put on notice. We will hold them accountable for ripping off working families, and we will beat them at the ballot box.”
Martin has served as the state party chair since 2011, making him the longest-serving person in the position. Over his 20 years in politics, he was a member of some less-than-successful campaigns on the national level, trying to get Al Gore elected in 2000 and John Kerry in 2004 to the White House. They would both lose to George W. Bush.
Martin and his wife live in Eagan with their two sons.
A new Minnesota DFL party chair is scheduled for March 29th. Martin will continue to hold the position until a new chair is elected.
