(KNSI) – A Holocaust survivor will be in St. Cloud February 12th to present a living history lesson.

St. Cloud State University’s Center for Holocaust and Genocide Education will host the free event as part of its Bryce Lecture Series.

In 1937, Manny Gabler’s father took his pregnant wife from Germany and fled to Milan, Italy, after Adolf Hitler declared Germany would be “cleansed of jews.” Gabler was born in Milan the next year, and before he was a year old, the family had to flee again. This time, to China. He will speak about his time there, living in a ghetto for the next nine years.

CHGE Interim Director Emil Towner said, “By listening to Manny’s story, we discover the roles of bias, fear, and antisemitism-not only in the past but also today.”

The talk will take place at 2:00 p.m. inside the Atwood Theatre.
