(KNSI) — Since the days of the horse and buggy, fire departments have welcomed a new truck in a very specific way.

With the pending arrival of Engine 5, St. Cloud firefighters are readying for the centuries-old tradition of the push-in ceremony. Before the invention of the automobile, a vehicle would be towed to a fire hall on a trailer. Staff then had to manually back it into its stall where it would wait until flames broke out somewhere within town.

The time-honored routine will be resurrected on February 27th at 9:30 a.m. at Station 5 on Clearwater Road. The community is encouraged to attend. Once it is housed in its proper spot, the engine will be available for a closer inspection.

The new Hazmat 2 will also be on display.
