(KNSI) — Records across the region were broken on Thursday after a day with temperatures well above normal.
The National Weather Service says St. Cloud hit 49 degrees just before 4:00, breaking the old record of 44 set in 1931 and tied last year. The record for St. Cloud for January 31st is 55, but the area won’t get that warm today.
Other record breaking highs were set in Minneapolis. They hit 52, besting the old record of 48, which was set in 1879 and tied 110 years later. Eau Claire, Wisconsin, set a record of 50, topping the old one by just one degree. That was set in 1896.
Snow is headed our way for the weekend, with colder air to follow. The normal high around this time of the year is about 21.
The first day of spring is 48 days away, but who’s counting?
