(KNSI) – Stearns County is beginning preliminary engineering and design work to make upgrades at Kraemer Lake-Wildwood County Park.

SRF Consulting Group has been hired for Phase I of a more than $1.5 million project. They are being consulted on installing an entrance road and gate, extra parking, and a property buffer. Once inside the park, work will take place to lay down soft-surface trails and a play area. A separate scout activities site is also planned.

Crews will restore prairies to boost pollinators like honey bees, and a waterless restroom will be constructed. Other new amenities on the way include a canoe launch, fishing pier, and picnic shelters.

Before Phase I is over, there will be a public comment period to collect feedback on the proposed improvements.
