(KNSI) — The City of St. Cloud says the Riverboat Lot downtown will be closed Thursday, January 30th.
The closure is to allow room for drilling equipment to take soil samples. The lot is expected to be reopened later this evening.
The lot was approved for sale and ready for redevelopment in October of 2024. City officials said they had an interested buyer at that time and had been fielding inquiries about the space for weeks. The land is on 1st Street South and 5th Avenue South, next to the former House of Pizza.
The property has been used as public off-street parking for over 30 years. City planners feel the site is well suited for a mixed-use project that could include a building with 20 to 30 residential units and commercial space on the ground floor.
On January 21st, 2025, the city received $41,433 from the Contamination Cleanup and Investigation grants, which pay up to 75% of the costs associated with assessments and cleaning polluted sites.
