(KNSI) – The Minnesota Ice Palace in Delano is back for the third year in a row.
General Manager Faith Field tells KNSI that amazingly, it’s a stand alone structure. “There is no secret piping. There are no secret construction materials under there. It is completely made out of ice. They are able to construct it with their top secret ice bricks and ice logs. And then we have this amazing sprinkler system that helps it grow and change every single night.”
Some palace fans were worried this week’s warmer weather would melt away the attraction, but she explains, “Actually, quite the opposite. The melt helps the walls get thicker, and then we can make them taller and have more ice to work with to make it a different and new experience. And then, hopefully, they’ll be able to get back out to some of the lakes and pull more ice bricks and see what else we can build out there.”
The event includes five food truck vendors, a VIP yurt experience, a gift shop, and a fire performance that runs every hour. The palace is open Thursday and Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. This Friday is Military Night, and any service members, past or present, can get in free.
