(KNSI) — A shipment from China containing $1.34 million in fraudulent gas engines was stopped this week at the Minneapolis-St. Paul Express Consignment Facility.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers intercepted 42 pallets containing 1,134 fraudulent engines on January 23rd. The engines were seized due to improper documentation and have been handed over to Homeland Security Investigations for further examination. They were bound for distribution to various businesses around the country.
CBP officers, as part of the agency’s border security mission, help safeguard the U.S. at ports of entry by inspecting international travelers and cargo, preventing the entry of illicit drugs, counterfeit goods, unreported currency, prohibited agricultural items, and other potentially harmful products that could threaten public safety, U.S. businesses, and the nation’s economic stability.
“I’m extremely proud of the diligent and professional work of our CBP officers and import specialists, who leveraged their expertise to identify and halt this suspicious shipment,” said LaFonda D. Sutton Burke, Director of Field Operations, Chicago Field Office. “While this type of seizure is uncommon, it is critically important. Our officers once again demonstrate how their training and vigilance help protect the public from potentially dangerous goods.”
