(KNSI) – A lack of smoke detectors nearly led to a tragedy in Forest City Township Sunday morning.
The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office says it was called out to a house fire at about 3:15. When deputies arrived, the home, garage, and a shed were all fully engulfed. The house was a total loss.
Complicating things was the fact that the home had no working smoke detectors. Inside were three adults and four juveniles. Luckily, one person was woken up by the blaze and was able to get everyone outside before their lives were put in jeopardy.
Officials believe the fire originated from a wood-burning stove in the garage. The Red Cross is helping to find temporary shelter for everyone involved.
