(KNSI) – The Minnesota Attorney General’s Office announced Monday that it has settled its insulin lawsuit against manufacturer Novo Nordisk.
The lawsuit was initially filed against three drug manufacturers and all have come to terms. It guarantees that every resident can buy insulin products for $35 per month or less over the next five years. For those making under 400% of the federal poverty limit, they can get insulin for free. That threshold is equal to $124,800 in annual income for a family of four. The prices will be in effect for both those with insurance and the uninsured.
Attorney General Keith Ellison celebrated the announcement. “In 2018, when our lawsuit was filed, it could cost hundreds of dollars for Minnesotans to fill their insulin prescription. As of today, it will cost just $35. My mission as Attorney General is to help Minnesotans afford their lives, and lowering the cost of an expensive, life-saving drug like insulin does exactly that.”
Officials will begin an awareness campaign about the terms of the agreement in the coming months. A link to the website is already live.
