(KNSI)- The St. Cloud Area School Board approved changing the boundaries for three elementary schools during Wednesday night’s meeting.

Around 120 households living along the County Road 75 corridor in the St. Augusta area and those south of County Road 8/Minnesota Boulevard will be going to Clearview Elementary near Clear Lake. Officials say the English-only sections at the school have seen consistently low enrollment while the Spanish Immersion program has been holding strong. District 742 Superintendent Dr. Laurie Putnam told KNSI News the other elementary schools in the area are seeing increasing enrollment. “We know that we currently have some space challenges at Oak Hill and Talahi-Lincoln. It seemed to make a lot of sense to us and to the board and and clearly to our community because they’ve been extremely supportive.”

Bussing will be provided for families, and Dr. Putnam says siblings won’t be divided under the plan. “We never, ever would want to split families up. So we do have a waiver process whereby families who have older siblings that at either Talahi-Lincoln or Oak Hill are able to keep their little with the rest of their family through a transportation waiver process.”

The decisions are part of the district’s long-term planning. She called Clearview an amazing school with a small-town feel.

This is the first time the district has changed boundaries since 1990. Putnam says redrawing the lines doesn’t happen often, but it’s something they are constantly assessing.
