(KNSI) — A local mainstay in the trucking business is celebrating 70 years this year.
Anderson Trucking Services, Inc., was started in 1955 by Harold Anderson as a two truck operation to support the booming granite industry in central Minnesota. Since then, it has grown to become one of the largest companies in the entire trucking industry.
Company Marketing Director Brenda Schermerhorn says it now has “over 4,500 truck and trailer assets in over 20 locations across the world.”
ATS opened branches in Puerto Rico in 1992 and in Germany in 2007. In the last 20 years alone, the company has delivered over three million loads and driven about 2.5 billion miles—enough to circle the globe 100,000 times or make more than 16,600 trips to the moon and back.
Schermerhorn tells KNSI News they’ve already been celebrating with their employees, “and so we have some special things planned throughout the year. We’re having some fun doing throwback trivia internally.” Customers and others can get in on the celebration with special edition throwback merchandise for sale and they’re “communicating with our customers already celebrating through our newsletters and some of that.” An audio history tour is available on its website, according to Schermerhorn. “We also are doing special edition podcast episodes this year that feature some of our oldest customers that we’ve worked with, as well as some of our most tenured drivers and our employees.”
A podcast episode featuring three generations of the Anderson family will go live in a few weeks.
Company officials attribute their success to hiring good people, caring for their drivers, embracing technology, and practicing sound financial management.
The company is now in its third generation of owners, and the fourth generation is already working there. ATS has some big plans for National Logistics Day in June, and more details will be released later this year.
