(KNSI) – The St. Cloud State University Dance Team won a national championship at this weekend’s Universal Dance Association competition in Florida.

The Huskies twirled and dipped their way to a title in the Open Game Day Dance category. The squad bested Endicott College and Northwest Community College to sit atop the cheerocracy.

The UDA says a Game Day routine is supposed to mimic what can be seen on the sidelines at a gym like Halenbeck Hall or arena like the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. The performance has to be three minutes, or less. It consists of three elements; a show case of the fight song, a set meant to get the crowd cheering, and a separate performance routine.

A video shows SCSU celebrating with the trophy. Jubilation and at least a couple displays of spirit fingers can be seen below.

SCSU helped contribute to a mighty haul for schools statewide. The University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, University of Minnesota – Duluth, and Minnesota State University, Mankato brought the heat in the Sunshine State. The Bulldogs, Golden Gophers, and Mavericks finished in the top two in a wide range of categories, including jazz and pom in the Division 1A and Open competitions.
