(KNSI) — For those still celebrating Christmas or putting it under the stairs this weekend, there are a couple more chances to dispose of real trees.

Sauk Rapids residents, the city is opening the compost site on Saturday, January 11th, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Bring a nonperishable food item to donate, and the tree can be left at the site for free. Saturday is for trees only. No yard waste will be accepted.

St. Cloud is making the rounds on Monday, January 13th. Residents must attach a clear or green city yard waste bag to the tree and set it by the curb by 6:00 a.m. Wreaths are not accepted for recycling because they contain wire. Wreaths and other decorative items can be dropped in the trash.

In Waite Park, the public works department will pick up trees until the 31st. Trees must be placed at the curb. Residents can also drop off their trees at the Township Recycling Center at no cost during regular operating hours.

Remove all decorations, the tree stand, lights, decorations, or any other attachments.

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture says Christmas trees, plants and wreaths should not be used for compost, as they could spread disease and invasive species. Trees should left curbside for collection or taken to a designated drop-off site.
