(KNSI) – St. Cloud’s longest-serving mayor will say a final goodbye as he gives his last State of the City address on Tuesday.
Dave Kleis will deliver his remarks on the past year and the city’s future for the 20th time at 12:30 p.m. inside the council chambers at city hall. The public is invited to attend the free event. In the past, the mayor has used the occasion to make some big announcements, such as the Amazon Warehouse coming to town, calling for the community to go 100% green by 2038 and last year, plans to go to the voters for a sixth fire station, which was approved in November.
Kleis was first elected in November 2005. He would go on to be relected in 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020. In a majority of those elections, he ran unopposed. Before becoming mayor, Kleis served in the Minnesota State Senate for 11 years.
Kleis owns a driver’s education school in the city and is a graduate of St. Cloud State University. He is originally from Litchfield.
KNSI News will carry the address on air on AM 1450/FM 99.3.
