Whitefish Chain of Lakes in Crosslake to Host Governor’s Fishing Opener

(KNSI) – The 77th annual Minnesota Governor’s Fishing Opener will take place on the Whitefish Chain of Lakes in Crosslake.

This is the first time the area has been chosen to play host to the event, which will happen on May 9th and 10th. The Whitefish Chain contains 14 interconnected lakes with 13,500 acres of water, numerous bays and islands, and 119 miles of shoreline.

The Governor’s Fishing Opener has been a tradition since 1948. The event was designed to promote the development of Minnesota’s recreation industry and, in recent years, has served as a kick-off celebration for the summer tourism season.
