(KNSI) – St. Cloud will honor one of America’s greatest civil rights leaders next month.
The annual Martin Luther King Junior celebration will last five days. It all begins on January 18th with the MLK Family Day on the St. Cloud State University campus. The planetarium will show “Mysteries of Your Brain” and a Tour of the Night Sky. The Great River Children’s Museum is sponsoring a DinoBlocks activity. The United Way of Central Minnesota is holding an Imagination Library event. There will also be bowling at the Atwood Memorial Center, face painting, kids’ activities, and more.
Sunday, January 19th, is MLK Spirit Day. It’s a Christian-focused event that speaks to the religious side of Reverend MLK. Across denominations, the goal is to bring faith communities together to honor his life and legacy. The event is being hosted by Salem Lutheran Church on St. Cloud’s east end.
The main event is the MLK Community Celebration on Monday, January 20th, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the River’s Edge Convention Center. A community conversation will kick off the breakfast, along with the announcement of the 2025 MLK Celebration Humanitarian Award, Dexter R. Stanton Essay and Visual Art Contest winners, and a keynote address by Dr. Evelyn Hill. People must register for the event.
On Wednesday, January 22nd, modern mentalist and magic performer Noah Sonie will perform at the Paramount Theatre starting at 7:00 p.m. The act blends telepathy and psychological intuition.
On Saturday, January 25th, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., there’s ‘Empowering our Beloved Community; a financial class that will teach the basics of budgeting, the importance of building credit and what goes into a credit score. At 3:30 that afternoon, the SCSU Huskies will take on Southwest Minnesota State in the I Have A Dream Game. It’s free to get into Halenback Hall with a donation of a non-perishable food item.
