(KNSI) – Ten Minnesota state parks will take part in a national initiative to explore the great outdoors on January 1st.
The effort is being organized by America’s State Parks. All hikes are free, but some require advanced registration. Vehicle permits are necessary, and they cost $7 for a daily pass or $35 on an annual basis.
The hikes are being held at Blue Mounds, Fort Snelling, Jay Cooke, Lake Bemidji, Maplewood, Minneopa, Nerstrand-Big Woods, Sibley, Whitewater, and Wild River State Parks. If there is some wintry weather between now and the first, the activities are designed to use snowshoes. If not, participants are encouraged to bring along a pair of boots.
