(KNSI) – With Santa Claus finished making his rounds for another year, it’s time to plan what to do with that real Christmas tree.
St. Cloud will pick up the pines on Monday, January 6th, and Monday, January 13th. Remove all decorations, the tree stand, lights, decorations, or any other attachments. Wreaths are not accepted for recycling because they contain wire. Residents must attach a clear or green city yard waste bag to the tree and set it by the curb by 6:00 a.m.
The LeSauk Lions Club is holding its annual Christmas tree pickup in Sartell. The organization will take the trees for $10 per tree and a non-perishable food donation. All donations go to help children in the area. To get on the list, send a message over Facebook to LeSauk Township Lion or email lesauklions@gmail.com.
For Sauk Rapids residents, the city is holding a food drive. Bring a canned good to the compost site and leave the tree for free. The compost site will be open from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 4th and Saturday, January 11th, for donation and tree dumping. No yard waste will be accepted on those dates.
In Waite Park, the public works department will pick up Christmas trees from January 6th to the 31st. Trees must be placed at the curb and free of any lights, ornaments, tinsel, or stands. Residents can also drop off their Christmas trees at the Township Recycling Center at no cost during regular operating hours.
The Minnesota Department of Agriculture says Christmas trees, plants and wreaths should not be used for compost, as they could spread disease and invasive species. Trees should left curbside for collection or taken to a designated drop-off site.
Wreaths and other decorative items can be dropped in the trash. Some items can be burned, but that should only be done as a last resort.
