(KNSI) – Rain and warm temperatures will dominate late December for the second straight year.
The National Weather Service Twin Cities Office forecasts high temperatures in the upper 30s from Thursday through Sunday. Rainfall totals could be over a third of an inch during that timeframe.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is warning about ice depth. The agency recommends that people stay off in any capacity if ice is less than four inches thick. A snowmobile needs between five and seven inches of ice. A heavy-duty truck pulling an ice house requires about 20 inches.
Not only will the temperatures be above freezing in the late afternoon, but lows on Thursday and Friday nights are expected to remain above the freezing point, as well. If the forecast holds, expect ice conditions to deteriorate until more seasonable temperatures return next week.
