(KNSI)- A St. Cloud man has been named the latest Scheels Hometown Hero.

Donald Primley was presented with the honor and a $500 check by the sporting goods store and the YouTube channel American Heroes Outdoors Television.

Primley is a 23-year Navy veteran who served as a surgeon with multiple deployments and stations across the globe. In his spare time, he also learned how to fly planes. He eventually ended up flying single-engine fixed-wing aircraft in the civil air patrol in Minnesota while donning an Air Force uniform. Primley eventually left the service and joined a shared medical practice in St. Cloud called Centrasota Oral Surgeons.

After his retirement, he became involved with the St. Cloud VA by performing surgeries for Veterans in need of care. He has been closely tied to the St. Cloud store for many years by helping develop different mentoring and learning to hunt opportunities for those less fortunate. Primley is the current president of the Great River Archery Club.

The Hometown Hero Award honors military service members and first responders in local communities. American Heroes Outdoors chooses 13 people and travels across the US to create videos sharing their stories of service and sacrifice.

Other past St. Cloud Scheels Hometown Hero winners include Ryan Priebe and Mike Mills.
