(KNSI) – Stearns County has passed two ordinances regulating cannabis companies ahead of a January 1st deadline.

The measures were approved on December 3rd and will allow up to 13 retailers, or roughly one for every 12,500 residents, consistent with the state law signed in 2023.

The regulations apply to cannabis growing, manufacturing, sales, and public events. The Minnesota Office of Cannabis Management will handle licensing. No business can get zoning approval and register with the county until it has state licensing approval.

More details about the ordinances are at the Stearns County website. A link is here.

Cities can either adopt the county zoning regulations or adopt their own, which would add to the number of potential retailer licenses.
