(KNSI) – The Stearns County Board of Commissioners recently approved using over $211,000 in American Rescue Plan Act funds for small-town park improvements.

The decision is boosting seven projects in the area, with the two largest being $50,000 grants. The first is to Spring Hill to help replace the grandstand and bleachers at the local ballpark. Wakefield Township is the second. It wants to add trails, disc golf, and a new playground at Sportsman’s Park.

Other projects that made the cut include $14,750 for a pickleball court at Meire Grove’s St. John’s Community Park, $8,475 to add seating at the St. Rosa City Park softball field, $43,617 to put in a wealth of new amenities at Jaycees Park in New Munich, $25,000 to expand the Glacial Lakes Trail, and $20,000 to install a playground near Padua Pub in Raymond Township.

Every grant required at least a 50% match. The total cost of the projects is $491,019, with ARPA funds covering $211,842 of that.
