(KNSI) — The suspect accused of stabbing a teen worker at Fleet Farm in Carver has been formally charged.
According to the criminal complaint filed in Carver County District Court, around 2:00 Sunday afternoon, police were called to the store and found the girl receiving first aid at the customer service desk. She had a stab wound to the neck, which showed the object had gone in one side and come out the other and had suffered “significant blood loss.” She was rushed to the hospital in critical but stable condition. Witnesses told police they heard her yell that she had been stabbed and saw 31-year-old Gerald Dwayne Hudson running from the direction of the yelling. Surveillance footage from the store shows the teen working in one of the aisles when Hudson walks down to the end, looks around, turns and walks back toward her and makes a “striking movement” while her back is turned to him.
Someone outside saw Hudson getting into a car and took down the license plate of his cream colored SUV before he sped away. Deputies found Hudson roughly an hour later and took him into custody following a high risk traffic stop. He initially denied stabbing anyone but added, “I just hit her with a plastic thing.” No weapon has been found thus far.
In a sworn statement, Hudson said he asked the girl where something was and “maybe she said something that didn’t sound right to me” before picking up a “thing” and hitting her. He also asked if she had “passed away.”
At the time of his arrest, Hudson was a wanted fugitive from Kansas City, Kansas.
He has been charged with first and second degree assault and is being held on $100,000 cash bail. His next court appearance is December 13th.
