(KNSI) — Nine St. Cloud residents have thrown their hat in the ring for consideration to fill the city council seat vacated by Mayor-elect Jake Anderson.

The interviews are set for December 2nd, starting at 3:30 in the afternoon. The applicants will be in front of the council, one candidate at a time and the others will not be in the room. Council President Jeff Goerger explained to KNSI News, “We are then going to let each candidate give an opening statement, and then the six members of the council will ask our own questions. They’ll have one minute to answer.”

A one-minute closing statement will follow this

“I think the process is going to be fair. It is going to be transparent, and I think it will give us an opportunity to garner enough information that we can make a good decision on who’s going to fill that seat,” said Goerger.

Those who applied are:

1. Hudda Ibrahim
2. John Allan Dvorak
3. Nicholas Lengyel
4. Anne Buckvold
5. Marty Czech
6. Saharla Diriye
7. John Hirdler
8. Melinda “Mindy” Ellingson
9. Abdifatah Afrah

During the regularly scheduled city council meeting that night, members will vote as many times as needed until one person has four votes. They have until December 18th to fill the seat, or current Mayor Dave Kleis will appoint a replacement.
