(KNSI) – President Joe Biden has officially pardoned two turkeys from Minnesota.
Peach and Blossom traveled from Northfield to Washington, DC, over the weekend for the annual pre-Thanksgiving tradition. Biden says Peach lives by the motto, “Keep calm and gobble on” noting Blossom is a kind bird, “No fowl play. Just Minnesota nice.”
In the ceremony on the White House lawn, the president issued his formal declaration, saying, “Based on your temperament and commitment to being productive members of society, I hereby pardon Peach and Blossom.”
Onlookers burst into applause.
The two will now live out their days at Farmamerica in Waseca.
The first turkey pardon is believed to be back in 1863 when Abraham Lincoln’s son Tad asked his father to spare the bird before the family’s Christmas dinner. It became an official ceremony under President George H. W. Bush.
Today was the final pardoning ceremony of Biden’s presidency.
