(KNSI) – The St. Cloud State University Women’s Volleyball Team cleared another milestone Sunday afternoon in their historic season, winning the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference tournament championship at home in front of over 2,400 fans.

After finishing the conference regular season slate a perfect 18-0, the Huskies won the NSIC quarterfinal and semifinal rounds earlier this week in straight sets before beating second-seeded Concordia-St. Paul three games to one: 25-18, 25-17, 29-31, 25-8.

The Huskies were led offensively by outside hitter Kenzie Foley with 19 kills. She tallied the match’s final point before being rushed by her teammates. Middle hitter Ella Thompson was an efficient second option. She chipped in 15 kills versus only one attacking error.

Four SCSU players were named to the All-Tournament Team. Joining Foley and Thompson were setter Emma Berran and outside hitter Shelby Kimm. Kimm was an all-around star in the championship match. On top of six kills, she had four service aces and 19 digs against one receiving error.

The Huskies are now 28-2 overall and will head into the NCAA Tournament the second-ranked team in the country, winners of 24 straight matches. As far as the Central Region, they have locked up the number one seed. That will be announced Monday evening in a selection show on NCAA.com.

Being the region’s top seed means SCSU would host the rounds of 64, 32, and 16, to be held December 5th-7th. The Huskies have made the NCAA Division II Tournament nine times in program history, but have never hosted. Their overall record in the “Big Dance” is 4-9.
