(KNSI) – A St. Cloud woman known for helping brighten the day for service members serving overseas has caught the eye of Congressman Tom Emmer and his staff.

On Wednesday, Becky Carlson was handed the Zachary and Elizabeth Fisher Distinguished Civilian Humanitarian Award from the U.S. Air Force for her non-profit organization, Becky’s Troop Care Packages.

Yesterday, Congressman Tom Emmer presented her with the prestigious award. “Becky Carlson has been a friend of our office for years, and she has never wavered in her support for our brave service members. We are proud of Becky’s work to support our men and women in uniform and congratulate her on earning this impressive award,” said Congressman Emmer.

The Zachary and Elizabeth Fisher Distinguished Civilian Humanitarian Award recognizes individuals and organizations that demonstrate exceptional patriotism and service to members of the U.S. Armed Forces or their families.

Becky started Becky’s Troop Care Packages to honor her brother, who died while serving in the Vietnam War. The group has been sending care packages to active-duty military members since 2003. The boxes are filled with snacks, magazines and personal letters from family, friends, and volunteers.
