(KNSI) – A Waite Park man has been sentenced after admitting to groping a teenage girl.

In July of 2023, police received an anonymous tip that a 14-year-old girl had been molested by her stepfather. Investigators went to the girl’s home for a welfare check, but John Chris Boodram Rux was also there and refused to let officers talk to her.

Police spoke with the girl’s mother and set up a forensic interview at the Child Advocacy Center, where the girl told police that in the spring of 2023, she was sleeping and awoke to Rux touching her inappropriately. She also said he had previously rubbed her thighs and had made her uncomfortable.

In October, Rux pleaded guilty to one count of fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct. As part of the deal, a count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct was dismissed. Stearns County Judge Shan Wang sentenced Rux to two years’ probation and a stay of adjudication, which allows a court to postpone a formal finding of guilt; essentially putting the conviction on hold while he completes probation. If Rux successfully completes probation, there will be no criminal conviction on his record as if it never happened. He was also given credit for three days served and ordered to attend a sex offender program, complete treatment, and pay a $50 fine.
