(KNSI) – The Minnesota Medical Association has launched something equivalent to an entire EPIC healthcare career fair all in one website.
HealthcarecareersMN.org is for students, teachers, counselors, and parents to provide more information on the pathways to a career in the healthcare industry. In addition to providing more information on the appropriate courses to take through high school and education requirements, it will be constantly updated with information on internships, mentorships, and training.
It is sure to be useful in the St. Cloud area, which boasts excellent nursing programs at St. Cloud State University and St. Cloud Technical and Community College. The area will soon have a medical school focusing on rural healthcare. The campus will start in the fall of 2025 and is a partnership between CentraCare and the University of Minnesota.
The website is the result of a 2021 effort by the MMA called the Barriers to Workforce Diversification in Physician Education, Training & Licensing Task Force. The group was formed to create recommendations that would make healthcare careers accessible to everyone, including underrepresented groups.
That could include certain races or ethnicities, but the shortage in physicians is also affecting small and mid-sized cities to a greater degree than major metropolitan areas. One of the stated goals of the new med school in St. Cloud is to close that gap.
