(KNSI) – The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office is selling K9 plush toys to help raise money for a new four-legged deputy.
The department heard about other law enforcement agencies trying it. Patrol Lieutenant Shawn Widmer told KNSI News it sounded like a good idea, “We reached out to the company to get these plush canine stuffed animals to try and raise some money for our canine program. We hope to be able to add an additional canine to our fleet, hopefully in late spring of next year.”
There are three to choose from, representing the trifecta of breeds used by the force. They are bloodhounds, German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois. Widmer explained how to get your hands on one. “They are here at the sheriff’s office during business hours. Anyone can come in and get one if they want to, at the records window in the lobby of the law enforcement center. And they are $20 each.”
Only 100 of the furry critters are available. The funds will support the sheriff’s office adding a bloodhound to the department. The dog will replace Freddie, who recently retired. So far, more than $10,000 has been raised. Stearns County hopes to have its new officer in place in spring 2025.
