(KNSI) — St. Cloud’s mayor-elect is getting ready to step into his new role.

Jake Anderson won last week’s election with 51.82% of the vote, telling KNSI News, “I was pleasantly surprised, and feel both excited and nervous about what the future holds, but I’m going to do what I can to transition into the role so that I can hit the ground running.”

He currently serves on the St. Cloud City Council and talked about a big motivating factor in his seeking higher office, “It was trying to establish more pride in our community, in developing St. Cloud proud. And that’s helped create a rebooted image of what St. Cloud is and how great our community is and can be.”

After January’s swearing-in ceremony, Anderson will be ready to roll up his sleeves and work on his top priorities. “Downtown is a critical part of our story here in St Cloud so what we can do to get that jump started again and begin that process of that revitalization. And also starting to work more on the homelessness issue, and getting that task force back up and running.”

Anderson is replacing Dave Kleis, who announced his retirement in April after 20 years in the role.
